Historical Roots of Football

The earliest forms of football date back over 2,000 years, with variations played in ancient China, Greece, and Rome. The Chinese game of "cuju," played during the Han Dynasty (206 BCE–220 CE), involved kicking a leather ball through a small opening, while the Greeks and Romans had their own ball games emphasizing physical prowess. Medieval Europe saw chaotic mob football matches with few rules, often played between rival villages.
